Have you ever been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, "Surely I can't look that old!" Well, you are gonna love this one.

I was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist when I noticed his diploma hanging on the wall. It bore his full name and I suddenly remembered a tall, handsome dark-haired boy with the same name. He had been in my high school class some 40-odd years before and I wondered if he could be the same guy I had a secret crush on way back then??

When I got into the treatment room I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was much too old to have been my secret crush... or was he??? After he examined my teeth I asked if he had attended Morgan Park High School.

"Yes, I did. I'm a Mustang!" he said, gleaming with pride.

"When did you graduate?" I asked.

"1959. Why do you ask?" he answered.

"Well, you were in my class!" I exclaimed.

Then that ugly, old, wrinkled son of a gun asked, "What did you teach?"

I have enjoyed the past few days

visiting with most of our "favorites" all in the same house at the same time.
Memaw and I didn't get home 'til 12:30 AM but it was worth it!
Favorite fifteen year old had a concert last evening. I know she plays the viola, did not know she is in a symphony orchestra comprised of all teen agers.
We stayed and went to her concert even though the drive is 3.5 to 4 hours to get home.
She was so beautiful as she walked onto the stage and took her seat.
The music was ingredible!
Afterwards, before we left, I had the pleasure of hugging both teen age grandaughters at the same time. I exclaimed: This is my artist and this is my performing artist. (Favorite soon to be eighteen year old is a very good artist.)

How I love them both.

I remember the Cap'n

He was my maternal grandfather, Captain Ernie Hall the last. That was the name on his card, because he was a sailing captain on the great lakes, had no brothers and no male cousins.
Yesterday I did a search to locate copies of a book he wrote. It was published in 1965 by Cornell Maritime Press and required years for him and his mate, the Marvelous Marvel to write.
The Cap'n was nearly blind. Although much of the material was stored in his memory. A lot of research was required. That was accomplished by the Marvelous Marvel reading aloud to him. He would sort out the information in his head, and dictate it to her. She would read it back out loud, he would mentally sort it out again, and re dictate.
I enjoyed so much listening to tales from the past he was wont to share. I suppose most folks didn't, and would sometimes try to avoid him.
I guess, in that regard, I've become my grandfather.

EAT MORE CHOCOLATE

Chocolate is derived from cocoa beans. Bean = vegetable. Sugar is derived from either sugar CANE or sugar BEETS. Both are plants, which places them in the vegetable category. Thus, chocolate is a vegetable.

The problem: How to get 2 pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car. The solution: Eat it in the parking lot.

Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off your appetite, and you'll eat less.

Put "eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you'll get one thing done.

I worked some in the garden yesterday.
Hurricane Wilma was not kind to it, but it is better now.
I've planted more pole beans, greens and tomatoes.
I've also figured out what to do to the sprinklers so they continue to cycle.
I'm looking forward to homade salsa with all the ingredients coming from the garden except the garlic. Garlic doesn't grow well in this climate.

There is a big aluminum awning leaning up against the fence. Wilma "hurt" it. I have never found one of the posts that it was attached to.
I need to disassemble it, but haven't had time yet.

Last night Memaw and I sat by the fire for a while and talked.
We must be weird.
Who in their right mind, living in the city, would build a fire to gaze into?

Next weekend we will journey north and visit over Thanksgiving with some of our "favorites."
I'm looking forward to that.

There are some incredible young people on this planet. Christy is one of them.
A link to her is on this page. If anyone besides her reads this, check her out.
She loves the Lord and isn't ashamed.
She shares her thoughts, feelings and experiences on the web and I appreciate her.

There is an old poem I wrote yesterday.
It goes like this:
I never saw a pink armadillo.
Did you ever see one?
I'll tell you this,
Little miss.
I'd rather see than be one.

Poetry is not something I'm good at.

BUT there is a story behind this one.

Friday Memaw and I were invited by our favorite son and his family to go with them to their hunting camp.
It was a last-minute invitation. We hastily loaded some "stuff" and followed them about sixty miles to the "woods."

It is a rather elaborate camp with a multi bedroom mobile home, screen porch and rockers, a pond, and 2,600 acres of pasture, palmetto, swamp, and Forrest. It even has a screened butcher house and walk in cooler.
The "funnest" part of the day was hunting armadillo with a paintball gun.
The children and women took turns climbing off the buggy and stalking the little critters until they were close enough to shoot with pink paintballs.
It was a barrel of laughs, no harm to the animals, (except a pink splotch which will easily come off,)and everyone enjoyed it.
Fourteen year old Max even was able to hit a buzzard in flight.

Be careful what you say, you may not like the response.
A man and his wife are sitting in the living room and he says to her, "Just so you know, I never want to live in a vegetative state dependent on some machine. If that ever happens, just pull the plug."
"Okay," says his wife as she gets up and un plugs the T.V.

I watched part of a program on TV that chronicled the presumed movement of people on the earth.
They had Homo erectus, Neanderthal.............
The well over used word throughout was evolved.
Actually, (this from a dumb old truck driver) the word should have been DEVELOPED.
But then, I don't have a godless agenda to promote.
It is true, however, that no matter how one chooses to describe man, he has been constantly on the move.
Ain't nuthn' changed has it?
A few weeks ago Doug and Linda left our little fellowship and moved to the mountains. Soon, one of their sons and his family followed. Now, Steve and Janie, ministers of music, are leaving too.
Tonight we went to favorite son's for fish dinner, fish brought back from a weekend trip to the Dry Tortugas.
How I enjoyed listening to favorite seven year old David relate the experiences he had on that journey.
It was a bitter-sweet time, since Brandon, best friend to David was there for his last visit before he and his Mom and brother vanish.
Memaw and I took Brandon back to their apartment. We stopped at Publix. I ran in and bought two cans of Campbell's mushroom soup for Brandon.
Lord, protect them, please!

When they returned after their "escape" from Argentina I hugged the boys and told them how much I missed them. Eight year old Brandon just held on and said: "You don't know how much I missed you. You know why?
"Why is that?" I responded.
"Mushroom soup." Once he and now twelve year old Dylon visited my house. We went in the canoe and upon our return ate Campbell's mushroom soup for lunch. Brandon loved it and to this day it is a favorite of his.
Today is the last time I will see them, perhaps for ever.
They will leave soon for an un-disclosed location in order to escape being abducted by their father, and to avoid the onerous rules of the Hague convention.
We hugged and prayed. I told them I love them.
Kathleen will probably sell the "magnificent Maxima" that Memaw blessed them with, (to help avoid detection.)
God bless Kathleen and her boys, and may Brandon always have plenty of mushroom soup.
No one that anyone contacted in the media was interested in show-casing their situation. At this point in time they only have their church "family" and now, in order that they hide, that too has been taken away.
Hopefully, a recent contact with a member of congress will lead to a successful conclusion, and they can join their "family" again.

I'm "bummed" but God is in control.

From church bulletin boards:

Ladies Bible Study will be held Thursday morning at 10. All ladies are invited to lunch in the Fellowship Hall after the B.S. is done.

The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday morning.

The pastor will preach his farewell message, after which the choir will sing, "Break Forth Into Joy."

Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community.

The eighth graders will be presenting Shakespeare's Hamlet in the church basement Friday at 7 p.m. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.

The ladies of the church have cast off clothing of every kind and they may be seen in the church basement Friday.

Announcement in the church bulletin for a National PRAYER & FASTING Conference: "The cost for attending the Fasting and Prayer conference includes meals."

The church will host an evening of fine dining, superb entertainment, and gracious hostility.

This evening at 7 P.M. there will be a hymn sing in the park across from the Church. Bring a blanket and come prepared to sin.

"Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don't forget your husbands."

Thus says the Lord:
"Let not the wise man glory in his wisedom,
let not the mighty man glory in his might,
nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me,
that I am Lord
exercising judgements and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight" says the Lord.

IF YOU SAY GO
If You say go, we will go
If You say wait, we will wait

If You say step out on the water
And “they” say it can’t be done
We’ll fix our eyes on you and we will come.

Your ways are higher than our ways
And the plans that you have made are good and true.

If you call us through the fire
You will not withdraw Your hand
We will gaze into the flames and look for You.

If You say go, we will go
If you say wait, we will wait.

If you say step out on the water and “they” say it can’t be done
We will fix our eyes on you and we will come.
